Business Minister’s letter to the Editor

Posted on 20 Apr 2012 by The Manufacturer

Mark Prisk, Minister of State for Business and Enterprise, write's to TM's editor with a call to action for manufacturers to improve enforcement methods for business regulation.

Dear Jane,

Focus on Enforcement

We know ill thought-out regulations cost businesses time and money.  So the Government is tackling this through the Red Tape Challenge. However sometimes, the regulation itself is fine – it is inconsistent or inappropriate enforcement that causes problems or could just be so much better.

In March the Government launched Focus on Enforcement, a new campaign and call for evidence which, for the first time, puts information about regulators all in one place and allows businesses and members of the public to have their say about how the enforcement of regulation affects them and to suggest areas of enforcement that should be considered for possible review.

We want to hear from [your readers]. If [they] post a suggestion on the website, we guarantee to read it.  The best ideas and suggestions for review proposed will be chosen for further swift investigation and we will report back what we find and then what we propose should be done about it.

I very much hope you will want to be a part of Focus on Enforcement and we look forward to reading forthcoming comments and suggestions.

MARK PRISK

Minister of State for Business and Enterprise
