Cains Brewery facing tax action

Cains Brewery, which produces the official beer of the 2008 Liverpool European Capital of Culture year, has been faced with the possibility of closure due to unpaid tax.

HM Revenue and Customs has filed a petition against the company which, it claims, owes them money.

“It is a very serious situation. We are in talks with our bank to try and borrow the money… We are not seeking funds over and above the amount we are already allowed, so we are confident the bank will help,” said Cains’ chief executive Sudarghara Dusanj.

“This is our first bit of trouble in the six years since we bought the company and we are hoping we can get through it.”
