Calsonic Kansei to downsize

Car component company Calsonic Kansei has been the latest firm to feel the credit crunch strain, announcing the loss of 60 jobs at its Llanelli factory.

“This is a direct result of a reduction in volume orders by our customers and the current global economic uncertainty affecting the automotive industry,” said president and COO James Davies.

Davies added that “[this] has come at an unfortunate time especially in the light of the recent positive news that the company has won substantial new business for new Nissan and Land Rover vehicles,” but that those orders are not due to enter production until the next financial year and so do not provide a way out of the current situation.

The firm is now working with unions to decide the best course of action.
