Component manufacturer CEL Sheetmetal has succeeded in reversing the overseas production trend of recent times with the help of Advantage West Midlands funding.
The company, based in Telford, specialises in laser cutting precision sheet metal components, and has provided 21 jobs in the Shropshire area thanks to its pioneering export link-up with a factory in China.
Due to the high costs associated with the manufacture of these components overseas, CEL is now exporting its produce to its sister company, China Enterprise.
“China Enterprise Ltd manufactures in China and ships components into the UK, supplying UK companies, but over time existing customers have requested other components too which fall under the scope of UK manufacture,” explained Nigel Fielding, managing director of CEL.
“With the need to plug this gap in the market in mind, I worked with the other directors to set up a manufacturing base in the UK. CEL Sheetmetal trades separately to China Enterprise, while both companies benefit from sharing resources at their Telford location.”
