China joins aerospace ranks

China has begun commercial aeroplane manufacture to reduce its reliance upon firms such as Boeing and Airbus.

The new company – China Commercial Aircraft – is supported by the state, Chinese governments, and a £1.4 billion (2.7 billion) investment. It will focus on regional passenger planes to relieve the pressure of the country’s constantly increasing demand for air travel.

It is hoped that the firm will one day rival the main aerospace players.
