Chinese automaker, JAC, has launched the new S2 model SUV in Chile with Peru, Colombia and Uruguay to follow later this month.

JAC hopes to see the S2 repeat the popularity of its previous model, the S3, which achieved strong sales results across South America last year. The S2 was launched successfully in China in August 2015, with monthly sales of between 6,000-7,000 units. By comparison, China’s leading SUV brand, Great Wall, sold 37,435 of its Haval H6 model in May 2016.

JAC plans to continue expanding its international sales of the S2, which began in Egypt in March. Over the last few months the company has been preparing and adapting the S2 for its South American launch, and recently received an admission certificate from the Chilean government.

JAC S2 chasing the S3’s Record

JAC plans to repeat the ‘sales miracle’ of its previous model, the S3, which has achieved over 300,000 global sales since its launch nearly two years ago. The S3 broke numerous SUV industry records, including a breakthrough of 10,000 sales in its first month, and becoming the best-selling SUV internationally within its first three months.

JAC launched the S3 in Chile last year, where it quickly became the best-selling SUV on the market, with average sales of 100 units a month. The new S2 is aimed at the same young, tech-savvy and style-conscious drivers who have been so attracted to the S3.

Based in Hefei, China, JAC Motors prides itself on its in-house research and development center, which the company says drives its innovation and growth. JAC also founded China’s first overseas research and development center in Turin Italy, and a second in Tokyo, Japan.
