Chrysler has ordered a two-week company-wide shutdown in July following a dramatic fall in sales of its vans and lorries.
In an internal memo, chief executive Robert Nardelli wrote: “In order to create better alignment and efficiency across organisational lines and boost productivity, Chrysler will use a corporate-wide vacation shutdown for the weeks of July 7 and July 14.”
The company saw a 14 per cent drop in sales to 150,093 units during February, with the number of lorries sold falling by 22 per cent.
