The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) has appointed Dr Graham Norris as its first Chief Futurist, as the organisation looks to strengthen strategic foresight capabilities across the global procurement and supply profession.

The newly created role comes as supply chains face mounting pressure from geopolitical instability, technological disruption and shifting global trade patterns, placing procurement professionals at the centre of strategic business decision-making.

CIPS, which represents more than 70,000 members across 150 countries, said Dr Norris would support its wider ambition to help organisations anticipate and adapt to long-term change.

His appointment coincides with the launch of “The Great Conversation”, a new global initiative designed to encourage procurement and supply chain professionals to help shape the future direction of the profession.

Ben Farrell, CEO of CIPS, said: “Bringing Graham on board reflects our commitment to ensuring that CIPS doesn’t just respond to change — we help define it.”

He added that Dr Norris’ expertise in foresight and organisational psychology would be “invaluable” as the institute enters its next phase of growth.

Dr Norris brings experience in organisational psychology, leadership and strategic foresight, having previously advised multinational brands including adidas, Intel, Microsoft, Lenovo, Volkswagen and Novartis.

Before joining CIPS, he served as Chief Operating Officer at Supertrends Institute and has held senior positions across Asia and Europe, including in Taiwan, Singapore, Japan and China.

Commenting on his appointment, Dr Norris said: “Procurement has never been more important,” adding that decisions made by procurement professionals increasingly shape organisations, supply chains and wider communities.
