Burton College receives top accolade from the National Skills Academy for Food and Drink for training provision to key industry players.
Burton College, Staffordshire, has won national recognition as a specialist in providing training to the food and drink industry and has been accepted as a member of specialist network of training providers with National Skills Academy accreditation.
The College already had already established a strong reputation within the food and drink industry through its skills and training provision to UK household names in the food and drink sector.
The college’s primary expertise have developed around managing and co-ordinating large-scale training projects for multi-site organisations, particularly in areas such as business improvement techniques and lean process engineering. The expertise they have accumulated in the delivery of this training is given testimony by contracts secured with the likes of local brewing giants Marstons and Molson Coors, Unilever (Best Foods), Kerry Foods and Florette.
Howard Boswell, Burton College’s vice principal, strategic partnerships and planning, said: “The National Skills Academy for Food and Drink comprises of a prestigious and unique UK-wide network of specialist training providers. Following a rigorous quality check, we have gained endorsement, which means that the college is now part of this network, through which employers can access expertise from training providers specialising in the food and drink manufacturing sector.
“It is fantastic to be part of a network of approved providers who are considered to provide first-class training for employers and to have demonstrated their commitment to the highest standards.
“Our success in gaining approval demonstrates our competence in and commitment to achieving the highest standards in the delivery of training to employers, our responsiveness and expertise within the training sector and our dedication to continuous improvement and innovation. This further enhances our reputation as a leading training provider both locally and regionally.”

The National Skills Academy for Food and Drink works in partnership with Improve, the food and drink sector skills council, to deliver employer-focused training, qualifications and skills solutions to the food and drink industry. It now has more than 70 training provider members organised into networks on a region-by-region and sector-by-sector basis.
