A Greater Manchester manufacturing and technology business has secured a major contract with Openreach to develop and supply a new engineering solution supporting the telecommunications provider’s nationwide Exchange Exit programme.
Oldham-based Constant Group will deliver an innovative plug-and-play system designed to help migrate fibre circuits from traditional telephone exchange buildings into secure external enclosures, supporting Openreach’s long-term plan to close more than 4,000 exchanges over the next two decades as the UK’s fibre network expands.
Developed by Constant Group, the solution enables pre-prepared units to be delivered directly to site for rapid installation, simplifying deployment and reducing installation time.
The company said the product has successfully exceeded Openreach’s testing requirements, with deliveries and installations already underway.
The contract marks a significant milestone for Constant Group and supports one of the UK’s largest telecommunications infrastructure transformation programmes.

The product was developed in collaboration with a number of specialist integration partners, bringing together engineering, manufacturing and operational expertise to create what the company describes as a world-first solution for the sector.
Openreach’s Exchange Exit programme forms part of its wider strategy to modernise the UK’s communications infrastructure by replacing legacy copper networks with full-fibre connectivity, helping improve network performance while reducing the number of operational exchange sites across the country.
