Cooksongold, a premier UK supplier of precious metals, tools, and services for the jewellery industry, has revealed that adopting Artec 3D’s Micro 3D scanner has halved the time it takes to create high-accuracy 3D models.

Using Artec cutting-edge 3D scanning technology, Cooksongold is now able to rapidly capture intricate pieces of jewellery, while still achieving exceptional precision. Faster iteration has not only improved productivity, but provided substantial benefits for customers requiring bespoke design modifications or item duplication.

Thanks to Artec Micro, Cooksongold can generate high-resolution digital scans of complex jewellery pieces typically within one to two hours. This capability streamlines the process of reverse engineering and implementing design changes, in a way that’s invaluable for clients wishing to customize or recreate cherished heirlooms.

Olivia Champion, New Product Development Engineer at Cooksongold, explains how the technology helps day-to-day: “If it’s a basic ring or quite a simple part, it would usually take about an hour. That’s just to get a few versions of the scan in different positions and stitch that data together in Artec Studio. Then we export the file as an STL. Once we’ve done any fixes, we send that straight through to the customer. CAD modelling a handmade ring with a lot of detailing would take 3-4 hours. Even then it wouldn’t be exactly the same. Now we can digitally make amendments much faster.”

Cooksongold’s enhanced 3D scanning service offers a straightforward process for clients. Jewellers and jewelry owners can submit pieces for digitization via an online portal. Upon receipt, Cooksongold utilizes Artec Micro to produce a detailed, editable STL file, empowering clients to modify, reproduce, or digitally archive unique designs with greater ease and fidelity.

Artec 3D Chief Experience Officer (CXO) Sergey Suhovey added: “Artec Micro was specifically engineered to capture the finest details on small objects – we are thrilled to see it having such a huge impact at Cooksongold. Perfect for digitizing complex pieces with exceptional accuracy and speed, Micro helps jewellery manufacturers enhance their service offerings, streamline workflows, and ultimately deliver even greater value to their discerning clientele.”

Building on the success of Artec Micro, the new Micro II takes precision scanning further with a larger field of view, 5-micron accuracy, and 2-micron repeatability This makes it an even more powerful tool for quickly and efficiently capturing intricate jewellery details and repeatedly delivering results that customers can trust.
