Telford-based food packaging firm Cropac has been selected to join the top 40 shortlist in the 2008 Barclays Commercial Bank Green Leaders in Business Awards.

The Awards recognise the efforts of companies in contributing to the drive for sustainability, by implementing ground-breaking processes, products or services to benefit the environment, as well as increasing their business success.

Cropac has been chosen for its concentration on climate change issues, having introduced such initiatives as in-house ink, solvent and film recycling; an energy efficiency monitoring system to control energy use in the factory; and eco-friendly equipment such as a solvent-free laminator.

“We believe Cropac is forward-thinking in the way they have found innovative solutions to doing business, which enables a new economy that is both realistic and sustainable,” said Richard French, Barclays Commercial Bank marketing director.

The firm is now waiting to see if it has been selected as one of 10 national finalists to be in with a chance of winning an award.
