Surrey students shine in SATRO’s engineering challenge
Teams from Hinchley Wood School (Key Stages 3 and 4) and Esher Sixth Form College (Key Stage 5) took the top positions across their key stages, emerging from heats involving almost 100 teams in this year’s SATRO Problem Solving Challenge. Supported by Air Products, the fast‑paced STEM competition saw more than 500 students from across Surrey come together to tackle real‑world engineering challenges. Read more via The Manufacturer
BMW Group produces its two-millionth all-electric vehicle
BMW Group has announced it has produced its two-millionth all electric vehicle. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive sedan in Tansanit Blue assembled at Plant Dingolfing is the two-millionth all-electric vehicle produced by the BMW Group. Sheffield Forgemasters starts work on UK’s largest open die forge
Historic steel giant, Sheffield Forgemasters, has begun steelwork assembly on the UK’s largest open die forging line. The Ministry of Defence-owned business which is celebrating its 250-year anniversary, is building a new 13,000-tonne forging line at its Brightside site, with steelwork for the building projecting to 45 metres high, more than ten metres taller than surrounding structures. Blueprint for global success as 3D printing entrepreneur secures a UK first by securing two King’s Awards
A young Warwickshire entrepreneur has gone from replacing his mom’s dishwasher with a homemade 3D printer to becoming arguably the youngest ever recipient of two King’s Award for Enterprise. Mitchell Barnes, who is about to turn 30-years-old, founded RYSE 3D in 2017 after proving out the importance of additive manufacturing (AM) in future production techniques for university friends.
