First all-female apprentice team prepare for Forterra bricklaying challenge
This National Apprenticeship Week, Lewisham College and Lee Marley Academy are proud to be entering the first all-female team to compete in building product manufacturer Forterra’s fourth annual London Apprenticeship Challenge.

A former UK Government plant health inspector is now growing her own apprentices after turning her hobby of rescuing old furniture into an award-winning business that creates “unique and remarkable upholstery”.

Midlands amongst biggest apprentice employers in the country
The Midlands had over 68,000 apprenticeship starts in 2022/23 (West Midlands 37,972) and East Midlands (30,470)
The most popular apprenticeship in the country is for early years teachers, with programmes for nurses, data technicians, engineers, accountants, and police constables also in the top 20. More via Warwickshire World
Apprenticeship starts ‘insufficient’ in key Greater Manchester growth sectors
A new report published by Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce shows that some of the numbers of apprenticeship starts in key sectors are falling short and do not meet the levels needed to address skills shortages.
Published as part of the work conducted by the Chamber for Greater Manchester’s Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP), the apprenticeships analysis* looks at courses in key sectors – construction, engineering and manufacturing, health and social care, and digital – and shows which courses are attracting the right levels of learners to bridge key skills gaps, and which courses are falling short.
