BMW successfully tests humanoid robots at Spartanburg plant

The BMW Group is exploring the use of humanoid robots in production for the first time.

During a trial run lasting several weeks at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg, the latest humanoid robot Figure 02 from California company Figure successfully inserted sheet metal parts into specific fixtures, which were then assembled as part of the chassis. More via The Manufacturer

New factory extracting gold from e-waste unveiled by The Royal Mint

A pioneering new factory that provides a more sustainable source of gold and reduces reliance on mining has been unveiled by The Royal Mint.

Located at its site in South Wales, the 3,700 square metre facility uses world-first patented chemistry from Canadian clean tech company Excir, extracting gold from printed circuit boards (PCBs) found in everyday items, such as TVs, laptops and mobile phones, in minutes. More via The Manufacturer

Cyberattack cost more than $17m, US manufacturer tells regulators

A cyberattack discovered in May by the manufacturer Key Tronic has cost the company more than $17 million, according to a Friday regulatory filing.

On May 6, the printed circuit board assembly fabricator first detected unusual activity on its servers, leading it to shut down operations in Mexico and the US for two weeks “during remediation efforts.” More via The Record

One of the UK’s leading steel door manufacturers has moved to a new £6m production facility.
