WMG delivers £450m boost to West Midlands economy
WMG at the University of Warwick has boosted the West Midlands economy by £450m – with every £1 invested into WMG’s small and medium enterprise (SME) programmes, around £22 has returned to the local economy.
Celebrating 20 years of tailored business support, WMG has delivered manufacturing expertise to 15,000 SMEs in the Midlands. It has supported the creation of more than 13,000 jobs, 350 new businesses and 355 internships over the last two decades. More via The Manufacturer

Britain’s only hand made electric car company is planning to conquer America amid a major sales boom in eco-friendly vehicles.

Tekmar Group toasts offshore wind contract wins worth £6m
Offshore kit specialist Tekmar Group is toasting a number of contract wins worth around £6m as it builds upon growing opportunities in the offshore wind market.
The Darlington based business, which provides products and solutions to the global offshore energy market, said the new deals tot up its order value in the financial year to date to approximately £23m. More via Business Live
AW Hainsworth achieves Zero to Landfill status
AW Hainsworth, a fabric manufacturer and woollen mill in Pudsey, has achieved Zero to Landfill status through recycling and waste reduction.
The 240-year-old heritage textile mill, which creates woollen cloth, textiles and fabrics for customers worldwide, tracked and measured its waste to develop a plan to reduce it to zero. More via Telegraph & Argus
Survey reveals how dealers rate manufacturer relationships
Mini and Kia were rated the best manufacturers by car dealers to work with in a biannual assessment conducted by the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA).
Asked ‘How would you rate your manufacturer overall on a scale of 1 to 10?’, the two brands both scored 9.23 to share top spot. More via Fleet News
British solar heat leader signs deal to manufacture products in the US
British solar heat innovator Naked Energy has signed a manufacturing contract with ELM Solar of ELM Companies, an American utility services and renewable energy technology provider.
ELM Companies has invested $3m into the facility and equipment to manufacture the Virtu product range. The expansion of ELM Solar and ELM Microgrid in Dallas is expected to generate 150 renewable energy jobs. More via Renewable Energy Magazine
MSC provides engineering support to student-led electric motorbike racing team
MSC Industrial Supply Co. UK (MSC) is a 2024 engineering partner for Warwick Moto – the student-led electric racing bike team at the University of Warwick.
Engineers from MSC will be providing a wealth of first-hand tooling and engineering support to the team, with a particular focus on the casing for the bike’s battery. More via The Manufacturer
