Blow for British steel industry as 2,500 jobs go at Port Talbot

The British steel industry has suffered a blow after confirmation that 2,500 jobs will go at the Port Talbot steelworks despite a £500m taxpayer-backed deal for the south Wales plant.

The business secretary, Jonathan Reynolds, has agreed a deal in which the government will provide £500m towards the construction of a new greener electric arc furnace at the site, with the plant’s Indian owners, Tata Steel, paying £750m. More via The Guardian

Leading Hull manufacturer marks five millionth Logic with a celebration of its best-selling boiler

Since its launch in 2009, five million Logic boilers have been manufactured and installed in homes across the UK.

Dronfield-based manufacturer West Special Fasteners is set for international growth after securing a six-figure funding package from HSBC UK.

Tees Valley shortlisted for £3bn reactors factory that could bring 4,000 jobs

An international energy firm has visited Tees Valley after the area was named in the final four to be the location for a Small Modular Reactor factory.

Tees Valley has been shortlisted by Holtec Britain alongside West Midlands, Cumbria, and South Yorkshire as a potential site for a manufacturing facility with the potential to create thousands of jobs. More via The Northern Echo
