Element reveals new $10m connected technologies laboratory in Surrey

Element Materials Technology (Element) has committed $10m (£7.95m) to support the latest technological advancements in consumer electronics, with a new connected technologies laboratory near Guildford.

Element Surrey Hills will create more capacity for essential Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), radio and wireless testing, and will introduce Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) testing to Element’s leading service portfolio in Europe, adding to its existing SAR offering in the USA and South Korea. JCB hydrogen machine makes trade show debut at EXCON, India

JCB unveiled its pioneering hydrogen combustion technology at EXCON, India’s premier construction equipment trade show taking place in Bengaluru. In its first-ever trade show appearance anywhere in the world, the JCB hydrogen-powered backhoe loader prototype, part of a £100m investment, was unveiled alongside JCB’s unique hydrogen combustion engine. Vegan manufacturer VBites calls in administrators

V Bites, the vegan food company founded by Heather Mills, has collapsed into administration.

The former model, who founded the company in 1993, said the shutdown of the business had been “extremely distressing”.

V Bites offered plant-based alternatives to meat, fish and dairy products and Mills had worked with fast food chains including McDonald’s. More via The Caterer

Made Smarter-backed Spice Kitchen targets £2m sales and new jobs with tech investment

A manufacturer of spice products is forecast to double productivity and sales to £2m and create new jobs after investing in data and systems technologies.

Backed by a £20,000 grant from Made Smarter, Spice Kitchen has embarked on a technology adoption programme, investing £40,000 in a cloud-based software solution which will integrate and automate manual and disconnected systems to drive efficiency and productivity. More via The Manufacturer

Manufacturer Neatcrown plans for expansion and creates new jobs following award win and revenue surge

A family-owned manufacturing company celebrating more than two decades in business is planning for expansion and creating new jobs.

And news of further growth at Corwen-based Neatcrown comes after the firm won the prestigious Co-Manufacturer and Packer of the Year title at the UK Packaging Awards, held in London. More via Business News Wales

Manufacturing industry ranks sixth in the UK for workplace wellness

The manufacturing industry has emerged as the UK’s sixth leading sector for employee wellbeing, according to a new study.

The index, created by exclusive flexible wellness workspace provider UNTIL, comprises six criteria, including gym subscriptions or discounts, number of on-site gyms, number of benefits in wellness packages, cycle-to-work schemes, PT access for employees, and Glassdoor review score, at companies in each sector. NI boat manufacturer Artemis Technologies eyes international growth

A Northern Irish company is taking Belfast’s maritime capabilities into a “new era” as it brings its ‘flying’ electric foiling boats to international markets with £2m backing from HSBC UK.

Artemis Technologies has used the funding to increase production capacity to enable it to commence serial production of its electric foiling workboats in response to growing demand.

The company – which launched the world’s first commercially viable, 100 per cent electric foiling workboat last year – has already received several orders globally. More via Insider Media

Collins Aerospace in Kilkeel recognised for STEM commitment

Collins Aerospace in Kilkeel has been recognised for its ongoing commitment to STEM activities, receiving the award for Best Small to Medium Enterprise in the UK Space Agency funded, Space Inspiration Awards, which were held during this year’s UK Space Conference in Belfast last month.
