Industry reacts to Chancellor’s speech at the Labour Party Conference

A mere month away from Rachel Reeves’ first Budget, the Chancellor of the Exchequer outlined some of the new government’s plans for industry at the Labour Party Conference currently taking place in Liverpool. Promising the UK will not return to austerity measures, Reeves promised the budget to be one of, “ambition and to fix the UK’s foundations, deliver change and rebuild Britain.” More via The Manufacturer

PwC UK appoints new Leader of Industry for Industrial Manufacturing and Services

PwC UK has announced the appointment of Cara Haffey as its new UK Leader of Industry for Industrial Manufacturing and Services.

In her new role, Cara will take on leadership responsibilities serving PwC’s clients across key industrial sectors, including manufacturing, professional services, automotive, engineering and construction. More via The Manufacturer

Profits grow at JCB as market outlook becomes more uncertain

Profits at construction equipment manufacturer JCB rose to £805.8 million in 2023, the company announced today. Sales turnover grew to £6.5bn and machine sales increased to 123,228. The Group maintained a strong balance sheet with no net borrowings throughout 2023. More via JCB

Manufacturing output falls over Q3 – CBI Industrial Trends Survey

Manufacturing output volumes fell sharply in the three months to September, according to the CBI’s latest Industrial Trends Survey (ITS). Manufacturers expect output to decline again in the three months to December, the first-time expectations have been negative since November 2023. More via CBI

BAE Systems begins integrating Mk 45 naval gun system onto HMS Glasgow

BAE Systems has begun integrating the Mk 45 naval gun system onto HMS Glasgow, the first of eight Type 26 frigates being constructed for the UK Royal Navy. This is the first installation of the Mk 45 and its Ammunition Handling System (AHS) on a Type 26 and represents a major milestone for the program, with installations planned for all ships in the class. Babcock to build a further 53 Jackal 3s for the British Army

Babcock, in partnership with Supacat, has been awarded a contract to build an additional 53 High Mobility Transporter (HMT) Jackal 3s for the British Army.

The Jackal is the most versatile high-mobility weapons platform in its class, equally capable of reconnaissance, patrol and logistic tasks. More via Babcock
