Minister launches first-of-its-kind Industry Innovation Accelerator

The Minister for Industry and Economic Security has launched the first-of-its-kind Industry Innovation Accelerator, first announced in the Government’s Advanced Manufacturing Plan in November.

Nusrat Ghani MP welcomed key players from UK digital and manufacturing companies who make up the Industry Innovation Accelerator to the taskforce’s first meeting in London yesterday, where they looked at both the opportunities and barriers in boosting the use of AI technologies across UK manufacturing, to raise productivity, increase sustainability and boost competitiveness across the sector. Airbus to acquire INFODAS and strengthen its cybersecurity portfolio

Airbus Defence and Space has entered into an agreement to acquire INFODAS, a Cologne-based, German company that provides cybersecurity and IT solutions in the public sector including for defence and critical infrastructures. The transaction is subject to the customary regulatory approvals and is expected to be finalised before the end of 2024. More via Airbus

Babcock welcomes Government’s critical nuclear skills announcement

Babcock International has welcomed the Government’s announcement on the national endeavour to secure the critical nuclear skills needed to protect our nation’s security and deliver our clean energy ambitions.

David Lockwood, CEO Babcock International and member of the Nuclear Skills Executive Council, said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for the UK to deliver a stronger nuclear industry that will contribute to the resilience of the UK’s independent deterrent and will support the UK’s energy security ambitions and net zero targets.” More via Babcock

Princes’ Bradford site to supply Capri-Sun with 250 million juice pouches a year

International food and drink group, Princes, has agreed a landmark partnership agreement with Capri- Sun Group Holding AG, to produce over 250 million Capri-Sun juice pouches annually at the Group’s production facility in Bradford.

This follows a recent move from Capri-Sun to bring sales and distribution in-house after a long-term relationship with Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP). More via The Manufacturer

Gloucestershire manufacturer rescues engineering firm from administration

A Gloucestershire manufacturing firm has acquired a Lancashire-based business from administration for an undisclosed sum. Tewkesbury’s Geometric Manufacturing, a provider of mechanical components to the defence and security industry, has taken over Precision Engineering Pieces (PEP) – a sheet metal and fabrication company. Wirral-based valve manufacturer celebrates centenary

A Wirral manufacturer has celebrated 100 years as a limited company.

Heap & Partners, a valve company, was first registered at Companies House on March 19 1924.

Midlands science park among Europe’s top start-up hubs

A Midlands science park home to dozens of innovative companies has been named as one of the best in Europe for helping cutting-edge start-ups thrive.

The University of Warwick Science Park (UWSP) has been identified as one of Europe’s leading start-up hubs in the inaugural edition of The Financial Times’ ‘Europe’s Leading Start-Up Hubs Special Report.’ More via The Manufacturer

Aston Martin appoints new CEO

The Board of Aston Martin has announced the appointment of ultra-luxury automotive leader Adrian Hallmark, who will join Aston Martin as an Executive Director of the Company and its Chief Executive Officer no later than 1 October 2024.

Hallmark, aged 61, will join Aston Martin from his recent position as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bentley Motors, a role he has fulfilled since 2018. More via Aston Martin
