JLR reports best Q1 cashflow on record

Jaguar Land Rover Automotive plc yesterday reported its financial results for the three months to 30 June 2023 (Q1 FY24).

JLR continued its positive trading momentum in Q1, driven by further improvements in volumes, mix and pricing compared to a year ago.

Revenues in Q1 FY24 were £6.9bn, up 57% vs. Q1 FY23, with wholesale volumes of 93,253, up 30% year on year. Compared to Q4 FY23, revenue was down 3% due to slightly lower wholesales reflecting shipping schedules, however total production was up quarter on quarter. Find out more on JLR

adi Group launches ground-breaking new life sciences division

To directly support the requirements of the Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences industry, adi Group, a leading engineering firm based in the UK, has launched its new Life Sciences division.

BAE Systems secures $15m US Navy contract

BAE Systems has received a $15 million contract from the U.S. Navy to deliver its next-generation digital interrogator for maritime vessels. The interrogator will have advanced capabilities – providing time-critical insights that reduce friendly fire incidents and support mission success in hostile environments. UK announces £680m for new high-speed electric railway in Turkey

UK Export Finance (UKEF), the UK government’s export credit agency, has underwritten €781m of financing – equivalent to £680m – to support construction of a 286km high-speed electric railway in southern Turkey.

With financing provided through UKEF’s Buyer Credit Facility, Rönesans Holding will finish construction of the Mersin-Adana-Gaziantep High Speed Railway on behalf of the Turkish Ministry of Transport. Find out more on The Manufacturer

Shiel Buses invests in another two Alexander Dennis Enviro200

Alexander Dennis, a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., has announced it has handed over two further Enviro200 to Shiel Buses, also known as Busaichean Seile in Gaelic, for its services in the Scottish Highlands. Find out more on Alexander Dennis

America faces significant shortage of tech workers in semiconductor industry and throughout US economy

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), in partnership with Oxford Economics, today released a study finding the United States faces a significant shortage of technicians, computer scientists, and engineers, with a projected shortfall of 67,000 of these workers in the semiconductor industry by 2030 and a gap of 1.4 million such workers throughout the broader U.S. economy.

The report, titled “Chipping Away: Assessing and Addressing the Labor Market Gap Facing the U.S. Semiconductor Industry,” also makes a set of policy recommendations to help close the talent gap and complement the workforce development initiatives that are already being carried out by semiconductor companies across the U.S. Find out more on Semiconductor Industry Association
