JCB dancing diggers make debut with Team GB ballroom dancers
As the nation prepares itself for Strictly Come Dancing fever, two internationally renowned dancing duos have teamed up for a unique ballroom routine on the most unlikely of dancefloors.
Two fleet-footed backhoe loaders from the legendary JCB Dancing Diggers were joined for a spin in the glitterball limelight by teenage Team GB ballroom dancers Kaynan Barfoot and Polly Welford at the company’s quarry in Staffordshire. Find out more at The Manufacturer
UK and Germany partner to further advance hydrogen developments
A new important agreement between the UK and Germany could help to accelerate the development of an international hydrogen industry – with the 2 countries at the cutting edge of its development.
Signed yesterday at the UK Embassy in Berlin, by Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance Lord Callanan and Federal Republic of Germany’s State Secretary for Energy Philip Nimmermann – a Joint Declaration of Intent will see the UK and Germany work together to underpin the international trade in hydrogen. DS Smith to invest €13m in Romanian production site
DS Smith is increasing its footprint in the Romanian market with an investment of over €13m in its Ghimbav production site. Alexander Dennis has announced that it has appointed Big Rig Manufacturing as contract manufacturing partner to meet resurging interest in the Enviro500 double decker in North America.
Starting next year, Big Rig Manufacturing will assemble clean diesel Enviro500 double deck buses and the zero-emission Enviro500EV CHARGE to Alexander Dennis designs, specifications, and processes at a new facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. Find out more at Alexander Dennis

Queen Mary researchers win EPSRC manufacturing grant to develop scalable manufacturing technologies for single-crystal perovskite optical and electronic devices
A Queen Mary Team, led by Dr Lei Su, Reader in Photonics at the School of Engineering and Material Science, has been awarded a highly competitive £1m EPSRC Adventurous Manufacturing Grant that supports high-risk and adventurous ideas. Bentley celebrates 90th birthday of ‘The Silent Sports Car’
Bentley Motors has welcomed 60 beautiful Bentleys of the ‘Derby era’ to Crewe to celebrate the 90th birthday of the Bentley 3½ Litre, commonly known simply as the ‘Derby Bentley’.
Organised by The Silent Sports Car Club – the owners club dedicated to the Derby Bentley – a cavalcade of cars convoyed to Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe last Friday, with more than 100 guests enjoying a tour of the campus, exploration of the Bentley’s newly refurbished Heritage Collection and a visit to the Mulliner workshops. NCC’s 900km trans-Europe cycle for FoodCycle Bristol raises £10,000
Budding cyclists from the Bristol-based National Composites Centre (NCC) have raised £10,000 for charity after embarking on a gruelling 900km bike ride from Bristol to Cologne – crossing five countries in just five days.
The challenge took place in June with a team of 15 cyclists who started their epic journey from the NCC’s headquarters in the Bristol & Bath Science Park, Emersons Green, down to Portsmouth where they boarded an overnight ferry to Caen. Find out more at The Manufacturer
