UK manufacturing sector slips to 12th in world rankings
The UK’s manufacturing sector has dropped out of the top 10 world rankings, falling to 12th, according to the latest official figures available published by Make UK today.
According to Make UK the data reinforces the need for the UK to adopt a long term industrial strategy as those countries who have such a strategy are clearly seeing the benefits on economic output. More via The Manufacturer
Rolls-Royce awards £85m multi-year contract to Glasgow’s Castle Precision Engineering
Rolls-Royce has announced it has awarded Castle Precision Engineering a contract worth more than £85m for the manufacture and supply of precision machined critical rotating aero engine parts to Rolls-Royce.
The new agreement continues a 40-year relationship with the firm as a supplier to its Civil Aerospace, Defence and Business Aviation programmes. More via The Manufacturer
Chips factory closure plan puts 115 jobs at risk
Up to 115 jobs are at risk under plans to close a McCain Foods factory in Lincolnshire.
The manufacturer said it had launched a consultation into the future of the plant near Grantham.
McCain is proposing to end production of a brand of microwave chips called Fries To Go, which it says is the only product made at the plant. More via BBC News
