UK’s first HVDC cable factory granted another approval

UK-based XLCC has secured detailed planning approval to build what is said to be the UK’s first HVDC cable factory, located in North Ayrshire, Scotland.

North Ayrshire Council Planning Committee granted full planning permission for XLCC’s HVDC subsea cable manufacturing operations in Hunterston, Scotland. Read more via Offshore Energy

SDE Technology invests £2m in new 1000-tonne press

A Shropshire-based pressings and assemblies specialist has invested more than £2m in acquiring its largest ever progression press.

SDE Technology has installed the impressive 1000-tonne Chin Fong press and coil handling line at its Brixton Way factory in Shrewsbury, an installation that will allow larger die usage and help create larger products for use in the automotive sector. Read more via The Manufacturer

UKBIC backs £36m battery scale up line

The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) has secured £36 million for a Flexible Industrialisation Line (FIL) to help battery makers scale up production.

The new line will bridge the gap between UKBIC’s Volume Industrialisation Line (VIL) and existing kilogramme scale demonstrator lines available elsewhere. Read more via eeNews

Coca-Cola Europacific Partners to invest €700m in 2023

Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP), the world’s largest Coca-Cola bottler, is investing at least €700m in 2023 in capital expenditure to deliver an even better service to customers and make progress toward its sustainability commitments. Read more via CCEP

UK Biobank in £127.6m move to Manchester Science Park

UK Biobank, the large-scale biomedical database, is set to receive £127.6m to fund a move to purpose-built facility at Bruntwood SciTech’s Manchester Science Park.

This follows an application by the Medical Research Council (MRC) to the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Infrastructure Fund to support UK Biobank’s development. Read more via UK Research and Innovation

£18m sales milestone a perfect 40th birthday present for Lesters

A major disruptor to the packaging sector is celebrating a big birthday in style after seeing turnover rise to £18m.

Lesters turned 40 years old in May and the management team immediately signalled its intention for further investment, building on the £7m acquisition of two state-of-the-art TCY large format casemakers that have revolutionised production at its Burntwood facility. Read more via The Manufacturer
