Dell is to close its PC manufacturing plant in Austin, Texas, with 900 workers set to lose their jobs.

The company, which has never closed a production site in its 24 years of operation, made the decision in order to cut its operating costs by $3 billion annually, therefore boosting profit margins.

There is also suggestion that the firm will consider selling part of its financial services division in the near future.
