Business consulting firm Front and Sullivan has commended Dell's range of Embedded Box PCs designed for industrial use.
The Box PC 3000 and 5000 series were awarded the North America Frost & Sullivan Award for Competitive Strategy Innovation and Leadership signaling their dominant position in this market.
That Dell won this award is all the more significant when the fact that this is the company’s first-ever line of embeddable PCs is taken into account.
The Box PCs themselves are powerful stand-alone computers optimized for a variety of industrial applications including fleet management, point of sale operations, and video surveillance.
Designed to be both versatile and rugged, these computers integrate seamlessly with a wide variety of form factors.
“The Embedded Box PC 3000 series is designed for environments requiring a small footprint, while the 5000 series is designed for high-bandwidth applications,” said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Rohit Karthikeyan.

Given that industrial computers don’t often have the luxury of inhabiting climate controlled office buildings, the Box PC’s produced by Dell are ruggedized for harsher environments.
“These products have particularly found acceptance among applications in harsh environments by virtue of being fanless with solid state drives, as fans and rotating drives are the most frequently failing component in embedded PCs. Other features include a 0 degrees C to 50 degrees C operating temperature range with no air flow, a design based on MIL-STD 810G specifications and wall mount options,” said Karthikeyan.
The Box PC is part of Dell’s efforts to expand itself into the Internet of Things (IoT) market. This new area of internet connected devices, many in industrial applications, will likely be one of the largest growth areas for the company into the future.
Beyond the IoT, Dell is continuing to see success across a number of areas, following its strategy of keeping the customer at the center of its development activities.
Dell now has a presence in over 840 countries around the globe, with over 40 distribution centers and 25 manufacturing centers.
Backing all of this are 30,000+ full-time customer service and support employees working at 1,800+ service centers supported by more than 25 repair facilities globally.
