Dell to cut Irish workforce

Dell has announced it is to shed 250 jobs across its two plants in Ireland.

The cuts will affect between 180 and 200 finance, IT, marketing, sales at technical staff at the Cherrywood site in south Dublin, and between 50 and 70 at the Limerick site.

The move is likely to have come as a result of the unsteady US economy, which has seen consumer demand for computers fall significantly.

Dell expressed regret over the losses, but said that it hopes they will position the company well for future growth.
