Doughty Engineering invests for improved MRP scheduling

Doughty Engineering has selected Access SupplyChain and Access Document Management systems to improve its MRP scheduling and bring time and efficiency savings to the business.

Explaining the technology investment decision, Stephen Wright, director of Doughty Engineering,  a manufacturer of rigging, suspension and lifting equipment for the film, TV and theatre industry, said: “We outgrew our existing Opera Pegasus solution; we were at the database limit, we had problems scheduling our MRP, and were looking for a modern SQL-based system.”

He continued: “With Access SupplyChain we got both a manufacturing and a finance solution as part of the same package – all the other systems we looked at had lightweight account systems bolted on.”

Doughty is looking to go live with their new software in February, and is already looking forward to the benefits.

“We’re going to see a considerable time‑saving on our day‑to‑day operations, by switching from paper‑based manual processes to automated workflows. This means there’ll be less admin to do in the back‑office and more accurate time recording downstairs on the shop floor, as we’ll have more control of our operations,” said Wright.

“People on the floor will find their job a lot easier, as they will be able to just touch a screen or swipe a scanner. Overall we’re hoping to see a huge increase in efficiency, and an improvement in our MRP scheduling. We can be more productive and we’ll be able to find the relevant data we need quicker.”
