Jayne Law, sales and marketing manager at Dow Building Solutions in the UK and Ireland, has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2012 New Year Honours List for services to the insulation industry.
Dow Building Solutions, a division of The Dow Chemical Company, supplies the construction industry with Styrofoam, the product which Ms Law started as a field sales representative for in 1987.
After a series of promotions she took up her current role in 2004 and now sits on the governing council of the Association for the Conservation of Energy (ACE), a lobbying and campaigning organisation in the field of energy efficiency.
“It was quite amazing to receive such an honour,” said Law. “I’m lucky to be very passionate about what I do, which makes driving for continuous improvement in the insulation industry much more than just a job for me – but I must admit this is the icing on the cake and a great start to 2012 for our business!”
Law recently oversaw the introduction of Styrofoam-A insulation in the UK, which uses CO2 as a blowing agent to improve its green credentials, giving it a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than five. This was followed at the end of 2011 with thermal conductivity improvements across the Styrofoam product range.
Andrew Warren, director of the ACE commented: “Jayne has been Dow’s representative on the Association for the Conservation of Energy’s Governing Council since 2004. Both at our formal meetings, and at informal sessions with both ministers and civil servants, she never fails to hit precisely the right note.”
Mr Warren added: “This award could not have been given to a more deserving person!”
Anyone can nominate someone for an honour, but they are only given to people who reach the required standard of merit in terms of exceptional achievement or service. Nominees must pass the scrutiny of several committee stages before a list is offered to the Queen for her approval, with the final list being published in the official Crown newspaper, the London Gazette.
