Drallim Industries has acquired the assets of Horsell Electrics after the light fittings company ceased trading as an independent business.

After 60 years of manufacturing industrial light fittings in Brighton, Horsell Electrics Ltd ceased trading at the end of April with the loss of 12 jobs.

Following an introduction by the Manufacturing Advisory Service South East, the business assets have been acquired by Drallim Industries. The entity has recommenced trading as “Horsell Electrics – A part of the Industrial Division of Drallim Industries Ltd”

Drallim is a long established, award-winning engineering, equipment and systems manufacturer based in St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex. The company has seen steady growth through the recession and has won The Manufacturer of the Year Award for Leadership and Strategy three years in a row.

“We are delighted to be able to step in and save the Horsell name within the Drallim Group,” says managing director Dave Mooney (pictured left). “We are an employee-centred company, committed to championing manufacturing in the UK, and in Sussex in particular. Our ethos closely matches the family atmosphere at Horsell and we will continue their strong customer focus whilst bringing new investment and more jobs to Brighton in the future.”

Richard Ainsworth, grandson of the founder of the Horsell, will continue working with Drallim as a consultant and the combined company will also continue to work closely with MAS South East and the University of Brighton Product Development Centre, which has helped both companies to grow.

The new company will initially employ 10 people as well as using other group resources. In the coming months there are plans to relocate within the Brighton area to a modern factory unit and to invest in new plant and equipment. “This will give a great base to propel the business forward with new products, improved quality and expanded capability,” says Mooney.
