Automotive giant, Ford Motor Compay has announced the recall of more than 400,000 Ford Transit van and bus vehicles built in its Kansas City assembly plant from January 2014 to June 2017.
According to an issue released by Ford, the issue is related to the driveshaft flexible coupling.
For those affected, “Continuing to operate a vehicle with a cracked flexible coupling may cause separation of the driveshaft, resulting in a loss of motive power while driving or unintended vehicle movement in park without the parking brake applied,” it said.
Additionally, separation of the driveshaft from the transmission could result in damage to surrounding componenets, such as brake and fuel lines.
Ford is reportedly not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with this particular issue.
Of the 402,462 affected vehicles in North America, 370,630 are thought to be in the US, 3,217 in Mexico and 26,254 in Canada.
Based on field data, Ford does not expect the current flexible couplings to deteriorate sufficiently to result in driveline separation in vehicles with less than 30,000 miles.
For affected vehicles with more than 30,000 miles, the interim repair will consist of replacing the driveshaft flexible coupling every 30,000 miles until the final repair is available and completed.
Owners are expected to be notified by mail.
