EADS rebrands as Airbus for 2014

The pan-European aerospace and defence group formerly known as EADS has officially rebranded as Airbus Group.

The decision to adopt the name of the group’s strongest brand, its civil aerospace arm, across all elements of the business was announced last year.

Old divisions such as Cassidian and Astrium will now be known as Airbus Defence and Space. This division will also include the pre-existing operations of Airbus Military and there will be a separate division called Airbus Helicopters.

Explaining the thought process behind the rebrand, Airbus Group CEO Tom Enders said: “For many years, Airbus has been a globally renowned synonym for technology breakthrough as well as aeronautic passion and pride.

“Joining forces under the strong Airbus brand gives all our operations and employees the thrust and lift to capture global markets.”

The rebrand is also the beginning of a transformation of Airbus Group’s holding structure. It aims to become a European Company by May 2015, a move which Mr Enders says will put it at the forefront of “European industrial integration”.

Airbus Group employs around 140,000 people across its divisions worldwide.
