Joanne Griffiths, accounts and purchasing manager at PCT, has been named as The Manufacturer’s Employee of the Month November 2016.
What is your role and what are your main responsibilities?
Running the accounts department for a business that is based on three sites with a turnover in excess of £5m. I have a team of people that I manage and have a high level of authority and responsibility, whether it’s managing cash flow or producing monthly management accounts.
What are the key technical skills you use?
After 28 years, I know every aspect of the company inside and out. I’m known as ‘The Oracle’ at work, because I have the ability to recall information accurately and efficiently. There’s no room for error. Knowing the customer is also a key skill that helps me in my role.
What personal characteristics help you in your role?
I’m a calm person, but very determined. I believe in working hard and expect the same from my team. I’m always the first in the office in the morning and always the last out of the door at the end of the day.
What do you consider to be your biggest personal success at the company so far?
By remaining loyal to PCT, I’ve progressed from YTS to being responsible for running the accounts department for the whole company, managing the day-to-day running of a£5m-plus-turnover company. The other ‘biggest success’ was meeting and marrying my husband, Tony, the production director, at work!
What are the most rewarding parts of your job?
I’m motivated by achieving and meeting deadlines. I like to make sure that my team and I hit any targets and finalise projects efficiently and accurately. Developing my team and supporting them is also rewarding because I remember what it’s like to be a learner.
Do you have a career ambition?
After my promotion at the beginning of this year I have now achieved everything I could have wished for in my career.
