Engineering salaries on the rise

Posted on 2 Jan 2013

The average salary for an engineer has risen by £643 according to recruitment firm Reed.

With the British economy showing few signs of growth during 2012, the average salary fell for 10 of the top 20 jobs in the UK, according to the recruiter’s survey.

However, the rise in engineering salaries was smaller than traditionally well-paid jobs in the service sector, with the average annual wages across banking up by £5,385, the recruitment sector up by £1,715 and IT and telecoms salaries rising by £1,288.

Engineering was the 14th highest salary on the list of 20 despite the rise. The sector is creating new jobs, with Reed putting almost 7,000 people into engineering roles, 397 more than in 2011.
