Engineers Norman Hay plc honoured 59 of its workforce, with a combined service totalling 999 years, at an awards ceremony in Coventry this week.

The company, which specialises in global chemicals, sealant and surface coating, supplies customers across five continents and employs 226 staff across the UK, 137 of which are based in Coventry.

Chairman Peter Hay presented the long service awards at a lunch presentation at St Mary’s Guildhall in the city, also receiving his own award after 40 years of service from the group CEO, Vic Bellanti.

He described his staff as the backbone of an organisation which has continued to succeed despite facing challenging marketplace conditions.

“The fact that nearly half have been with us for 10 years and more is testimony to the level of loyalty which is held amongst the workforce,” he said.

“I want people to wake up in the morning and look forward to coming to work and if you can achieve that everybody wins.”

Steve Hubbard, now operations director for China after joining Norman Hay plc in 1986 as a general operative, said:  “Despite the fact that the Surface technology division operates across 11 sites globally, it has still managed to maintain a team ethic which is fantastic.”
