Exports the catalyst for growth at Midlands manufacturer

Midlands-based manufacturer of catalytic converters, BM Catalysts, has announced increases of 17% in turnover and 40% in export sales for the last 12 months.

The independently owned maker of catalysts and diesel particulate filters (DPFs) has also revealed plans to expand its European business activities before the end of the year.

Managing director Toby Massey detailed the launch of a new range of premium products designed with the European market in mind.

Massey, who was only appointed as MD in early 2012, states that UK manufacturing is alive and well. “We are enjoying a period of growth and are particularly excited to be launching new products into the European market at a time when the rest of the EU is facing huge business challenges.”

Massey spent a decade as commercial director before becoming the third generation of the Midlands-based family to lead the business, taking over from Chairman and former MD John Massey.

A new product range will be rolled out across Europe in 2012 and is set to be revealed in full at the automotive trade fair Automechanika in Frankfurt.

The first product in the range will be Silicon Carbide (SiC) DPFs designed to offer customers the choice between standard aftermarket products or higher specification parts.

By the end of this year the company will employ over 300 people in the UK, including a dedicated part development team headquartered in Mansfield, which identifies and designs future parts that it predicts will be popular. All parts are developed and manufactured in two plants in Nottinghamshire, with an average production capability of 3,000 parts a day.
