The new site is expected to commence production sometime before the end of 2017, and output is thought to centre on Aegg’s PS, PET and PP food packaging (pots and bowls).

Established in 2010, the business is a specialist supplier of innovative premium injection moulded plastics, glass and ceramics. Its packages can be found on the shelves of all of the UK’s major supermarkets, and increasingly on in-flight airline meals.

The company has made significant investment into technologies, new tooling and materials at its new 60,000 sqft site to offer additional capabilities to the UK market, as well as the diverse export markets and airline businesses it also currently serves.

Phase One of the unit will include five Netstal injection moulding machines and two injection stretch blow moulding machines, with additional machines due to be added during Phase Two when the site’s footprint more than doubles to 140,000 sqft.

Aegg is highly focused on improving the environmental credentials of its food packaging ranges and wider organisational activities, such as looking into a range of eco-options including alternative power choices to help minimise its carbon footprint.

Aegg’s managing director, Jamie Gorman explained: “With more of Aegg’s manufacturing taking place in the UK, this will allow us more control in times of future uncertainty while Brexit negotiations take place.

“The new manufacturing facility also fits well within our growing turnkey project management service, providing an all-encompassing provision from conceptual design right through to delivery to the factory production line.”
