Engineers are being invited to swap their tools for irons in a special golfing challenge to promote apprenticeships and engineering as a career.
Teesside-based engineering consultants PX Limited are hosting the event in Darlington on 4 September, with the challenge is open to all UK engineering companies.
It will be followed by a dinner sponsored by Semta, the sector skills council for science, engineering and manufacturing.
Trevor Arnold, director of PX Limited and a member of Semta’s regional council commented that the event is a good opportunity to promote all that is good about engineering.
“Technical skills are scarce and are getting more difficult and expensive to hire,” said Mr Arnold. “Semta’s research shows UK recruitment demand for engineers, scientists and technicians hitting 82,000 over the next five years to cover the number of retirements and meet the anticipated economic growth.”
He added: “We all need to work together to meet this challenge and a round of golf at a top venue is a different way to get the creative juices flowing.”
Teams of four can be made up from either one or a collection of firms. It costs £200 to enter a team, or £75 for individuals. There will be a three course dinner, prize presentations to the top three teams and a swing analysis DVD for all players.
