The Technology Strategy Board and Design Council have launched a £600,000 competition for SMEs to develop new mobility and nutrition systems which can help older people maintain independence.
The ‘Home and Away’ competition, part of a larger programme at the Technology Strategy Board called Independence Matters, aims to find new effective and affordable technologies which allow older people to get around and to prepare nutritious food for themselves.
Ten SMEs will initially receive feasibility grants worth £20,000. The four best proposals will then be in line to receive development contracts including £100,000 of funding. The competition is open to small businesses in the fields of design, manufacture and service provision that have solutions which are ready to be scaled up and rolled out to the commercial market
