The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) has unveiled the final shortlist of companies for its Manufacturing Excellence Awards (MX) 2008.
Twenty firms have been selected, including Rolls Royce and Perkins, and each will now receive a visit from the MX judges, with winners to be announced on 26 June.
Established by IMechE 26 years ago, MX comprises 13 awards in categories such as Product Innovation, Process Innovation, Best Finance Management, Best SME, Best Business Education Partnership, and Sustainable Manufacturing.
“The MX Awards are all about sharing best practice and this has never been more important for manufacturers this year, concerned about international competition, the global credit crunch, rising energy costs and a shortage of skilled staff,” said David Wright, MX judge and MAS West Midlands chief executive.
“The 2008 MX shortlist reinforces the message that British manufacturing is not dying, but transforming. These firms are profitable, innovative and investing in R&D, all of which are key to surviving in the current competitive climate,” stated MX project manager Paul Terry.
