International manufacturing festival announces 2013 dates

The Global Manufacturing Festival in Sheffield will be held from April 17-19, 2013 at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre in Rotherham.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has agreed to provide a key note speech and the organisers are hoping to secure another senior politician to speak at the event.

Organised by the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and agency CreativeSheffield, the festival will feature a trade show, featuring mainly companies from the Yorkshire region, and a conference programme.

The festival will appeal to UK and global manufacturers from a wide range of sectors where special materials – metals, alloys, composites and how manufacturers work with them – is the common theme.

Several foreign embassies have been asked to invite foreign delegations to attend. The event will launch officially in November at Westminster.

The trade show will be housed in a giant marquee outside the AMRC with lectures and workshops inside the building.

A meet-the-buyer event, potentially focusing on the offshore wind industry, will be held on one of the three days.
