One of the UK’s biggest plastic organisations, OnePlastics Group has continued its commitment to drive innovative waste management and recycling products with an investment in the latest machinery and technology.

OnePlastics Group has invested a seven figure sum to acquire two new injection moulding machines for subsidiary, Straight Ltd – one of the UK’s leading wheeled bin and recycling container manufacturers.

Located at Straight’s Hull factory, the new machines will allow the company to increase production and strengthen its place in the market by developing further innovative recycling products.

This latest investment is part of an ongoing strategy by OnePlastics Group to drive long-term organic growth in the six-strong portfolio of businesses.

Earlier this year, the group invested another seven figure sum on new machinery at Rotherham-based MGB Plastics.

OnePlastics Group sales director, Karl Stillman said the new machines will be used to build on the success of pioneering products such as the 3Box Stack, and help develop other kerbside recycling projects.

He commented: “OnePlastics Group is committed to innovation and leading the market with products that will revolutionise the recycling and waste management industry.

“Our strategy is to strengthen and invest in all parts of our business to achieve this objective and these new machines will help with production and help develop new products.

“Straight has made a substantial investment in new product innovations over the years such as new faster cycling tooling for its kerbside box, the 3Box Stack and food waste caddy ranges, and this investment will help continue this drive.

The latest investment has seen Straight Ltd house a new 1,000 tonne and 800 tonne duo injection moulding machines from Engel at its headquarters in Hull.

The machines each have three-axis robots and in parallel, a further investment in digital printers will enable automatic printing in line with the moulding process.

Compared to traditional off-line printing, the quality and consistency of product decoration will be significantly improved leading to a reduction in scrap and improved production outputs.

3Box Stack is a recycling system that allows multiple materials to be collected separately without the need to carry containers to the kerbside.

Straight has developed a 70 litre middle box to accommodate higher volumes of lower weight cans and plastic bottles, effectively giving local authorities more flexibility in tailoring 3BoxStack to suit their local recycling targets following successful trials in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

One51plc, based in Ireland, created a new brand called OnePlastics Group last year which saw six manufacturing businesses and one design office in the US come together under one umbrella with a vision to be the leading provider of plastics products to a variety of sectors.

OnePlastics Group boasts a combined turnover of almost €150m, employs 450 people and services a range of blue chip multinationals.

It designs and manufactures a range of products across a number of key markets and sectors and also offers full contract manufacturing and related services.

Alongside Straight, the six other businesses that comprise OnePlastics Group include the UK’s MGB Plastics, AAC Plastics and Protech Performance Containers; Protech Performance Plastics in Ireland and Protech Plastics China in Shanghai.

It has also created a design office in Boston, US.
