Sixteen sixth-form students from West Derby Academy attended the event which consisted of a series of interactive sessions, talks and interactive activities, all aimed at offering an insight into the exciting and dynamic world of logistics, intralogistics and the wider supply chain.

An introductory overview from Steve Richmond, director of Systems & Projects at Jungheinrich UK, outlined the importance of the intralogistics sector to global industries, consumers and the UK economy.

He commented: “Many young people are unaware of the role the logistics and intralogistics industry plays in ensuring that food is available on supermarket shelves, components are presented just-in-time to automotive production lines, and consumers receive the goods they order on the internet just hours later.

“It’s a dynamic, growing sector with enormous opportunities for young people – and, as one of the leading companies in the sector, we want to play our part in bringing this important message home to school leavers.”

The Warrington office is the home of Jungheinrich’s Systems and Projects Division, which supplies fully automated warehouses for some of the world’s largest enterprises – huge projects that cannot fail to impress and inspire young people.

Jungheinrich UK has just embarked on its largest single recruitment initiative for young apprentices with the creation of 17 positions in the company’s Customer Service organisation.

Illustrating the success of Jungheinrich UK’s apprenticeship programme, Gavin Hersom, one of the company’s young engineering apprentices, recently won the Fork Lift Truck Association’s Apprentice of the Year Award 2016 at a prestigious Awards event held at the International Centre in Shropshire on February 27.
