Dehumidifier manufacturer Ebac has added a new factory to its County Durham operations to house its growing business, and is targeting 400 employees.
The family firm, founded by ebullient businessman John Elliott, will expand into the former home of Radius Products on the Aycliffe Industrial Park, Newton Aycliffe, as it looks to add new product streams and “hundreds of jobs” to its operations in the town.
Ebac, which manufactures water coolers and dehumidifiers, recently added its range of air source heat pumps to the products manufactured at its existing site on the same business park, where it employs 200 people.
Following the beginning of development work to start manufacturing washing machines in 2014, and the recent acquisition of the Norfrost chest freezer brand and production facilities, the company aims to increase its workforce to up to 400.
The factory for the Norfrost products range is to be moved from Castletown in northern Scotland, using a fleet of around 100 trucks.
Pamela Petty, Ebac’s managing director, said: “We are dedicated to manufacturing in the North East, and this site will enable the growth which is happening within Ebac to take place on the Aycliffe Business Park, which has been our home since 2010.
“This site offers plenty of space for growth and will house the manufacture of the freezers, while the production of dehumidifiers and water coolers will continue at Ketton Way, alongside the new washing machine line being installed there.
She added: “This expansion is part of our continuing commitment to County Durham, following the formation of the Ebac Foundation in 2012. We are investing in the future of manufacturing in the area and look forward to bringing more jobs to the area.”
Ebac will be helping lead the Manufacturing Collaboration Challenge at The Manufacturer Directors’ Conference this year. This special event is hoping to identify if some of the overseas-made products, which we currently consume in great quantities, could be made at home by local companies using locally made components.
