Lyten and Modovolo partner to advance aerospace-grade 3D printing

Lyten and Modovolo have announced a partnership to combine advanced graphene-enhanced materials with modular additive manufacturing technology, aiming to expand the production of aerospace-grade components closer to the point of use.

Under the agreement, Modovolo’s Build Forward Platform (BFP) – a modular, transportable industrial 3D printing system – has been optimised to use Lyten’s 3D Graphene-enhanced PA1205 filament. The companies say the combination will enable manufacturers to produce lighter, stronger components while reducing print times and improving supply chain resilience.

The collaboration targets growing demand across the aerospace, automotive and industrial sectors for localised manufacturing capable of producing large, high-performance parts without relying on centralised production facilities or complex global supply chains.

Designed and manufactured in the US, Modovolo’s BFP platform was developed to provide an industrial-scale additive manufacturing solution that can be deployed wherever production is needed, including remote or demanding operating environments. The system is intended to produce aerospace-grade components on-site while reducing logistics costs and lead times.

Modovolo has already been using Lyten’s materials since 2025 to manufacture its Lift Quadcopter-X drone, which serves commercial, emergency response and defence applications. The new agreement expands that relationship by integrating Lyten’s materials into the wider rollout of the BFP platform.

Lyten said its PA1205 filament delivers significant performance improvements over conventional carbon fibre-reinforced materials, including double the X-Y axis tensile strength, 40% greater Z-axis tensile strength and 50% higher impact resistance. The material also offers improved temperature performance, faster print speeds and reduced warping while maintaining dimensional accuracy.

Justin Call, CEO and co-founder of Modovolo, said the company selected Lyten’s material after an extensive evaluation of high-performance filaments.

“Lyten’s PA1205 enables us to print stronger and lighter parts while maintaining a better print finish and speed versus competing products,” he said. “Lyten’s filaments are an integral part of our product roadmap.”

Dan Cook, CEO and co-founder of Lyten, said the partnership reflects a broader shift towards localised, high-performance manufacturing.

“Our goal is to prove better performing, better priced products can be both sourced and manufactured locally, creating supply chain resiliency and business model flexibility for customers,” he said.

Cook added that integrating Lyten’s graphene-enhanced materials with Modovolo’s modular manufacturing platform would help manufacturers rethink how products are designed, produced and supplied, while supporting the global deployment of aerospace-grade additive manufacturing capacity.

The partnership comes as manufacturers increasingly invest in distributed production models that reduce dependence on global supply chains while enabling faster production of complex, high-value components for aerospace, defence and industrial applications.
