Plastic coat hanger maker Mainetti has begun talks over possible job losses at its Jedburgh factory in the Borders. Up to 55 of its 300 workers may lose their jobs.
The company has blamed the need to restructure on increasing competition from low cost economies such as China and India and unstable market conditions.
“With the difficult trading environment that retailers are having consequently the demand has substantially reduced,” explained director of business Jim Hutchison.
Mainetti has now entered into a 30 day consultation period with its workforce and is in discussion with Unite union.
