Leading industrialists will join Semta, the sector skills council for science, engineering and manufacturing, to promote skills at the Conservative Party Conference.

Siemens, BAE Systems, and Plastic Logic will share the platform at Semta’s Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering skills fringe event in Birmingham next month (October 9).

The event will be chaired by Jacqui Henderson CBE, managing director at Creative Leadership and Skills Strategies. It will update delegates on the work going into investing in skills, including Employer Ownership, the development of Higher Apprenticeships, the Advanced Skills Accreditation Scheme and Semta’s work to drive an increase in the number of SMEs taking on apprentices and graduates.

Among the speakers will be Juergen Maier, managing director of Siemens UK industry sector, CEO of Plastic Logic Indro Mukerjee, Nigel Whitehead, BAE Group managing director programmes and support and Semta’s UK operations director Lynn Tomkins.

The breakfast event will also be addressed by a Minister who will give an update on the Government’s Growth Plan.

The event will be held between 08.00 and 09.45 in Hall 11A at the ICC, Birmingham.
