Two British manufacturers have praised Made in Britain’s Environmental and Social Value (ESV) Certification for improving their “marketplace credibility” and pointing them “in the right direction for continuous improvement.”
Scarab Sweepers and WDS Components have both been recognised for their clear and measurable commitment to people, planet and place, and reflected on their progress as part of Made in Britain’s Social Value Month.
Global leader in the design and manufacture of road sweepers, Scarab Sweepers, is on a journey to improve its footprint not just in the UK, but around the world – with a focus on its stakeholders, employees and customers. Initiatives include donating to local food banks, planting native trees via The Woodland Trust, providing education packs and visits to local preschools and extensive waste reduction policies.
The ESV Certification has really helped us improve our marketplace credibility. The UK is one of the leading hubs for road sweeper manufacturing in the world, but we are the only supplier with the Made in Britain accreditation, so it helps us continue to push in this marketplace.
The certification is a key signpost to say that we’re committed to British manufacturing and also delivering environmental and social value to our customers and stakeholders.

WDS Components, a manufacturer and global supplier of standard parts and machine accessories, prides itself on delivering a wider positive impact – beyond just its services and products. As part of this commitment, the business has a Sustainability Task Force, with representation in every department, which focuses on initiatives such as saving water, saving power, recycling and supporting the local community.
Mark Moody, Sales and Marketing Director at WDS Components, said: “We’re committed to contributing to the UK economy, developing people and skills, supporting responsible supply chains, and improving environmental and community outcomes.
“As an SME, the certification helps give us that focus, it helps give us ideas and points us in the right direction for continuous improvement.”
The ESV Certification, which is aligned with the UK Government’s latest Social Value Model (2025) and the Procurement Act 2023, helps UK manufacturers to practically demonstrate their environmental and social value. It aims to help businesses promote their commitment to local jobs and skills, community engagement, environmental sustainability, and ethical and local supply chains.
John Pearce, CEO of Made in Britain, said: “The ESV Certification is an invaluable tool for UK manufacturers, recognising the vital contribution they make to social value every single day through their commitment to skilled, meaningful employment, support for local supply chains, their environmental actions and strengthening their communities.
“This all helps the growth of the UK’s productive economy and helps to build trust in the sector as we work towards a socially and environmentally viable economy.”
