Amplifier manufacturer Marshall has thrown its weight behind the Made in Britain campaign, which aims to promote British manufacturing around the world.
The Milton Keynes-based company is backing the Made in Britain campaign, launched in December last year, as a means of paying tribute to its 160-strong, UK-based workforce.
Marshall believes the popularity of the brand, established in 1962, would not have endured for more than five decades if the majority of its products were manufactured overseas.
The amps are manufactured and assembled by hand at the company’s factory in Bletchley, Milton Keynes, where more than 4,000 are produced each month and dispatched worldwide.
“We are known for the quality of our products and without that commitment we would never have been the standard-bearer for rock and the amplifier of choice for legends like Pete Townshend and Jimi Hendrix,” said Jon Ellery, managing director of Marshall.
“We were not prepared to compromise on quality and that’s why we’ve maintained our thriving factory in Bletchley and continue to manufacture here in the UK. We’re very proud of our heritage and will continue to crank up the volume in support of British manufacturing.”
The brand has been a global music icon since the first Marshall Amplifier, the JTM45, was created by company founder Jim Marshall in his music shop in Hanwell, West London.
It’s joining of the initiative comes just a week after Made in Britain confirmed 26 manufacturers joined the campaign in February.
