McCain Foods celebrated 35 years since the launch it's McCain Oven Chip, at the Canadian High Commission in London.
The event, hosted last week by McCain and the High Commissioner for Canada, Gordon Campbell, saw 50 dignitaries and politicians enjoy an evening discussing how the convenience food McCain a household name in the UK.
The family-owned, Canadian company established itself in the UK in 1968, with its first manufacturing site in Scarborough.
McCain Oven Chips launched 11 years later and McCain has grown to be the largest frozen potato manufacturer in the UK.
CEO for McCain Foods GB Nick Vermont, said: “The launch of the McCain Oven Chip marked a major milestone for innovation in the UK food industry.
“To celebrate, we wanted to look back on 35 years of the product’s continued success.
“This celebration has also allowed us to showcase some of our more recent business achievements.
“Product development is vital in making sure we give consumers an increasing choice of nutritionally balanced food that’s convenient and tasty.
“Our most recent introduction, the McCain Ready Baked Jacket, is testament to that.”
Guests spoke to longstanding McCain employees about the company 35 years about their Oven Chips, product reformulation, and McCain’s long-term relationship with UK agriculture and sustainable business practices.
Two McCain engineering apprentices also helped showcase the company’s commitment to supporting an industry-wide approach to filling a national engineering skills gap, through their McCain Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Scheme.
The High Commissioner for Canada said: “Congratulations to McCain Foods for successfully launching the Oven Chip in the UK 35 years ago.
“McCain is one of about 700 Canadian companies in the UK, which together employ more than 80,000 people, demonstrating how investment brings a direct benefit to both of our countries.”
